Nile Cruise Tour Aboard Le Fayan Nile Cruise

4.9
4 / 5 Days Luxor - Aswan

Tours Overview

Explore the ancient world at its most magnificent from the deck of the Le Fayan Nile Cruise — a contemporary, thoughtfully appointed vessel sailing the most historically extraordinary corridor on earth, where the monuments of ancient Egypt stand in greater concentration than anywhere else on the planet. This is the nile cruise tour that puts five thousand years of human civilisation exactly where it belongs — right outside your cabin window, unfolding at the unhurried pace of the river itself.
The Le Fayan Nile Cruise connects Luxor and Aswan through a seamless blend of comfort and discovery, offering full-board dining, well-appointed cabins, and a welcoming sun deck from which the landscapes of Upper Egypt reveal themselves in slow and magnificent succession. Every element of the on-board experience is designed to make the river feel like the destination rather than merely the route between temples — because on a nile cruise tour of this quality, the journey itself is as much a part of the experience as every monument it delivers you to.
What truly distinguishes the Le Fayan Nile Cruise is the depth of engagement it provides ashore. A dedicated, licensed Egyptologist accompanies every excursion, transforming the overwhelming columns of Karnak, the painted royal tombs of the Valley of the Kings, the Ptolemaic masterpiece of the Temple of Horus at Edfu, the unique sacred duality of Kom Ombo, and the rescued island sanctuary of Philae into something far more than sightseeing — a genuine, personal, and lasting encounter with the ancient world that no museum or documentary can replicate.
Two itineraries are available — a 4-day northbound voyage from Aswan to Luxor and a 5-day southbound expedition from Luxor to Aswan. Both are fully inclusive of accommodation, all meals, guided excursions, entrance fees, and transfers, ensuring that your attention remains entirely on what matters most. The Le Fayan Nile Cruise is a nile cruise tour designed not to impress you briefly but to move you permanently — a journey through the greatest civilisation the ancient world ever produced, conducted with the care and quality that the subject has always deserved.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival in Aswan

Your nile cruise tour opens in Aswan — a city that carries its southern identity with quiet pride, its granite-studded riverscape and Nubian-influenced streets setting it apart from anywhere else in Egypt with immediate and unmistakable character. Upon arrival, you are welcomed and transferred to the Le Fayan Nile Cruise, where check-in introduces you to a comfortable cabin and the vessel's inviting public spaces before your first lunch on board. The afternoon begins at the Aswan High Dam — the vast 20th-century infrastructure project that tamed the Nile's seasonal floods and transformed Egypt's water and energy future in ways still felt across the country today. From there, the ancient granite quarries deliver you to the Unfinished Obelisk, lying exactly as its pharaonic craftsmen abandoned it thousands of years ago, its tool marks still visible in the surrounding rock and its intended scale a humbling reminder of what ancient Egypt dared to attempt. As the day moves toward evening, a motorboat crossing delivers you to Philae Temple on Agilkia Island — a sanctuary dedicated to the goddess Isis, rescued stone by stone from the rising waters of Lake Nasser in one of UNESCO's most celebrated operations. Surrounded by still water and glowing in the last warmth of the day, the temple earns its reputation as one of Egypt's most beautiful ancient sites without any difficulty. You return to the Le Fayan for dinner as the first evening of your nile cruise tour settles into a quiet and starlit calm.
Overnight aboard the Le Fayan Nile Cruise in Aswan

Breakfast is served as the Le Fayan Nile Cruise moves northward through one of the most scenically rewarding stretches of this nile cruise tour — the sun deck offering a front-row view as sugarcane fields, fishing boats, and riverside villages drift past in a living tableau that feels genuinely unchanged from the scenes carved on the temple walls ahead. Kom Ombo Temple arrives mid-morning at one of the Nile's most photogenic bends, its twin colonnades dedicated in perfect symmetry to Sobek the crocodile god and Horus the Elder — a theological duality unique in the Egyptian religious canon. The ancient surgical instrument carvings on its interior walls continue to astonish scholars, the Nilometer beside the temple once tracked the flood levels on which entire harvests depended, and the adjacent mummified crocodile museum adds a memorably sacred dimension to the visit. After lunch on board, a horse-drawn carriage delivers you to the Temple of Horus at Edfu — the most completely preserved ancient Egyptian temple in existence — where towering pylons, shadowed inner sanctuaries, and vivid mythological relief sequences depicting Horus's cosmic battle against Seth bring the full experience of ancient Egyptian religious life to immediate and extraordinary life.
Overnight aboard the Le Fayan Nile Cruise in Edfu

The passage through the Esna Lock — the Le Fayan pausing in its stone chamber while local traders appear cheerfully alongside in small boats — marks the threshold into ancient Thebes, which rises into view with the quiet authority of a city that was, for nearly a thousand years, the most powerful on earth. The afternoon belongs entirely to the East Bank and specifically to Karnak Temple Complex, where two thousand years of pharaonic construction have produced a religious site in a category entirely its own. The Great Hypostyle Hall's 134 towering columns reduce every first-time visitor to a state of genuine and unrehearsed awe, while the sacred lake, the processional sphinx avenue, and the soaring obelisks of Hatshepsut each reward extended and unhurried attention. As evening deepens over the city, Luxor Temple receives you with its beautifully floodlit pylons and colonnaded courts glowing in warm golden light against the dark sky — ancient stone performing with a theatrical grace that makes this one of the most atmospheric settings of any nile cruise tour in Egypt, the desert wind moving through the colonnades as it has for thirty centuries.
Overnight aboard the Le Fayan Nile Cruise in Luxor

different from everything that has come before on this nile cruise tour — quieter, more austere, and weighted with a significance that presses on the senses before you have descended into a single tomb. Crossing the Nile at dawn, the Valley of the Kings receives your group in its characteristic and affecting silence, the pale limestone hills concealing royal burial chambers of breathtaking painted complexity whose scenes of the afterlife journey have survived three thousand years with extraordinary vividness and fidelity. The Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari follows with sweeping colonnaded terraces rising against the sheer golden cliff face with an architectural serenity that feels entirely modern despite its age — a monument to the female pharaoh who governed Egypt with full royal authority and built accordingly. The Colossi of Memnon offer a final, wordless farewell before transfer — two immense seated kings presiding over the Theban plain with the patient dignity of those who have already outlasted everything and intend to outlast much more.

Day 1 - Arrival in Luxor and East Bank Exploration

Luxor announces itself with the kind of quiet insistence that belongs only to places carrying the full weight of civilisational significance — pharaonic columns visible from the airport road and five thousand years pressing on every street and riverbank. Your 5-day nile cruise tour begins here with a transfer to the Le Fayan and a welcome lunch on deck as the East Bank skyline introduces itself at a civilised pace. The afternoon delivers you to Karnak Temple Complex, where the accumulated ambition of thirty pharaohs built over two millennia produces a site whose Great Hypostyle Hall, sacred lake, and soaring obelisks each operate at a scale that recalibrates the visitor's understanding of ancient possibility. As night falls, Luxor Temple presents its floodlit colonnades in an atmosphere of warm golden drama, the captain's welcome dinner waiting on board as the city's lights shimmer below.
Overnight aboard the Le Fayan Nile Cruise in Luxor

Crossing the Nile at sunrise carries its own quiet ritual meaning — from the east bank of the living to the west bank of the dead, a transition the ancient Egyptians marked with ceremony and intention. The Valley of the Kings unfolds in characteristic silence, the royal tombs of the New Kingdom pharaohs preserving scenes of the afterlife in colours of extraordinary vividness across three millennia. Hatshepsut's Mortuary Temple at Deir el-Bahari follows with its sweeping colonnades emerging from the golden cliff face with a calm architectural confidence that feels entirely contemporary, before the Colossi of Memnon stand their eternal watch as the Le Fayan turns southward and the open Nile Valley carries a long and peaceful afternoon away on the current.
Overnight aboard the Le Fayan Nile Cruise en route to Edfu

A horse-drawn carriage at the Edfu dock carries you to the Temple of Horus in the most fitting and unhurried fashion — a Ptolemaic masterpiece of exceptional completeness whose towering pylons, dark inner sanctuaries, and vivid relief sequence depicting Horus's battle against Seth are preserved in a state that allows your Egyptologist to reconstruct the full ceremonial life of an ancient Egyptian temple with precision and depth unavailable at any other site. After a relaxed lunch on board, the Le Fayan continues south through an increasingly intimate stretch of the valley to Kom Ombo, where the twin-colonnaded temple of Sobek and Horus the Elder sits dramatically on a river bend in the late afternoon light — its ancient Nilometer, surgical carvings, and mummified crocodile museum each adding a different and richly rewarding layer to a day already full of remarkable encounters.
Overnight aboard the Le Fayan Nile Cruise in Kom Ombo

The Le Fayan arrives in Aswan to one of the nile cruise tour's most dramatic landscape shifts — green agricultural plains giving way abruptly to dark granite outcrops, the Nile deepening in colour and the desert asserting itself with a clarity that makes the boundary between the cultivated world and the primordial one feel entirely physical. The Aswan High Dam opens the day with a lesson in modern ambition, the Unfinished Obelisk answers from four thousand years earlier, and Philae Temple closes it in pure and unambiguous beauty — the motorboat crossing to Agilkia Island building quiet anticipation that the rescued and reassembled colonnades of the Isis sanctuary more than repay as they shimmer in the last warmth of the afternoon. A farewell gala dinner aboard the Le Fayan brings this penultimate evening of your nile cruise tour to a warm and celebratory close.
Overnight aboard the Le Fayan Nile Cruise in Aswan

The last morning of your nile cruise tour belongs to Aswan at its most personal — the granite river holding the early light and the city moving at its unhurried pace as the day begins without agenda. An optional Nubian village visit provides a conclusion of genuine human warmth — its brightly painted houses, generous hospitality, and handmade traditions offering something no ancient monument can provide: the living warmth of a community whose roots run as deep as the river beside it. Disembarkation and transfer to Aswan Airport follow, bringing your time aboard the Le Fayan Nile Cruise to a close — though a nile cruise tour of this character and depth tends to occupy a permanent place in the memory long after the journey home is done.

Frequently Asked Questions

We recommend securing your reservation 3 to 6 months prior to your intended travel date. This is particularly important during Egypt's peak season, which runs from October through April. Booking early not only guarantees availability but also gives our team ample time to craft a truly personalised experience tailored to your preferences.

Yes, we are pleased to offer preferential rates for groups of 6 or more travellers. As every group has unique requirements, we invite you to contact us directly so that we may prepare a customised quotation suited to your party size, itinerary, and interests.

Our tour packages are designed to provide a seamless, all-encompassing experience. Inclusions typically cover accommodation, guided excursions, select meals, and all transportation within Egypt. Specific inclusions vary by package, and a full breakdown is provided at the time of booking so you know exactly what to expect.

Travel insurance is not a mandatory requirement; however, we strongly advise all clients to obtain comprehensive coverage prior to departure. International travel can bring unforeseen circumstances — from medical emergencies to flight disruptions — and adequate insurance ensures that your journey is protected from the unexpected.

Egypt is genuinely safe for travelers, and millions visit each year without incident. Tourist police are a highly visible presence at every major site, resort town, and transport hub. The Egyptian government treats tourism as a national priority — and that protection is real, not just on paper. Common sense applies as it would anywhere: stay aware of your surroundings, avoid unsanctioned political gatherings, and stick to well-traveled areas after dark. The Egyptian people themselves are famously warm and hospitable toward visitors.

Most nationalities — including those from the US, UK, EU, Australia, and Canada — can purchase a single-entry tourist visa on arrival at Cairo International Airport. The cost is USD $25 or the equivalent in Euros, paid in cash only (cards are not accepted at the visa desk). Your passport must be valid for at least six months from your travel date. Alternatively, Egypt's e-Visa portal (visa2egypt.gov.eg) lets 41 nationalities apply online before departure. However, many travelers find it simpler to just buy it at the airport.

Solo female travel in Egypt is increasingly common, and many women do it comfortably with proper preparation. Dress modestly outside of Red Sea resort areas, be confident in your manner, and don't hesitate to be firm with anyone who is overly persistent. Harassment does occur, particularly in busy tourist markets, but it is usually verbal and easily managed by moving on. Booking tours with reputable operators removes a lot of friction and lets you focus on the experience itself. Many female solo travelers describe Egypt as one of their most memorable journeys.

Yes — a standard tourist visa is valid for 30 days, but extensions are obtainable. Visit the Mogamma building in Cairo's Tahrir Square, or go to the passport offices in Luxor, Alexandria, or Aswan. Extensions allow you to stay for an additional month. Come prepared with your passport, a photo, and a small fee. If you're leaving Egypt and re-entering (for example, via Jordan), you'll need a fresh visa on your return — your original is cancelled at departure.

The Egyptian Pound (EGP) is the local currency. Hotels, large restaurants, and most shops in tourist areas accept major credit cards and US dollars or Euros at a reasonable rate. That said, always keep some Egyptian Pounds on hand — local markets, small cafés, taxi drivers, and tips all run on cash. ATMs are widely available at airports, banks, and shopping centers across all major tourist cities, and they dispense Egyptian Pounds directly.

Tipping — known locally as "baksheesh" — is a well-established part of Egyptian culture and an important part of service workers' income. At restaurants, 10–15% is standard. For private guides, EGP 100–200 per day is appreciated. Drivers typically receive EGP 50–100 for a full day. At major sites like the Pyramids, you may encounter unofficial "helpers" who offer unsolicited assistance and then expect payment — it's perfectly fine to politely decline any help you didn't ask for.

Absolutely — bargaining is part of the experience in Egypt's bazaars and souks. Opening prices at markets like Cairo's Khan el-Khalili are usually two to three times what a seller expects to receive. Approach it with good humor, don't take the first price, and feel free to walk away — that often brings a better offer. Fixed-price shops and mall stores are the exception: what you see is what you pay. The goal is always a fair deal, not a "win," so keep it friendly.

Lightweight, loose-fitting clothing that covers your shoulders and knees is ideal — both for cultural respect and practical comfort in the heat. Think linen trousers, long cotton skirts, and breathable tops. Men should avoid shorts at historic and religious sites. Flat, closed-toe shoes are strongly recommended when walking around temples and pyramids — the ground is uneven and dusty. Red Sea resort towns like Hurghada and El Gouna are far more relaxed; beach attire is completely normal there.

Shoes must be removed before entering any mosque — bring a bag to carry them if you prefer not to leave them at the door. Women are asked to cover their hair and wear clothing that covers arms and legs; a large scarf in your day bag solves this easily. Men in shorts may be lent a wrap at the entrance of some mosques. Most mosques are closed to non-Muslim visitors during prayer times, so check in advance for the five daily prayer schedules, especially Friday midday prayers when many sites close temporarily.

Yes, alcohol is legal and available — but selectively so. You'll find beer, wine, and spirits at hotels, upscale restaurants, licensed bars, and duty-free shops. Outside of tourist establishments and resort areas, alcohol is rarely sold. Drinking in public streets is not acceptable and is technically prohibited. You may bring up to 2 liters of alcohol into Egypt duty-free. The legal drinking age is 21.

Yes — entry to the interior of the Pyramids is possible but limited. Only a fixed number of tickets are released each day and they sell out quickly, especially at peak season. Tickets must be purchased in person at the main entrance; online booking is not available for interior access. Arrive early — ideally before 8 AM. Be aware that the passages inside are narrow, low, and warm. If you're claustrophobic, the experience of the exterior and plateau is every bit as spectacular.

Photography inside the tombs is prohibited — a rule that is actively enforced. Cameras and phones are typically required to be put away before entering. The reason isn't arbitrary: flash photography, even from smartphones, accelerates the deterioration of thousands-of-years-old paint and pigment on tomb walls. Respect the rule. What you can do is photograph everything outside, and the imagery inside is so vivid it will remain in your memory long after the visit.

A Nile cruise between Luxor and Aswan is one of the finest ways to experience Upper Egypt — watching temples emerge from the riverbanks as you sail is genuinely unlike anything else. Classic motor cruises (3–5 nights) are the most common and affordable. For a more intimate, slower experience, a Dahabiya — a traditional wooden sailing vessel accommodating only 8–16 guests — offers unhurried access to small villages and lesser-visited temples. Lake Nasser cruises, sailing south of Aswan toward Abu Simbel, are for the truly adventurous.

October through April is the golden window — temperatures are comfortable (15–28°C / 60–82°F) and the light is extraordinary. December and January are peak season with the highest hotel rates and crowds. March to May is a sweet spot: warm but not oppressive, with fewer crowds and lower prices. Summer (June–September) is intensely hot in Cairo and Upper Egypt — up to 45°C (113°F) — though the Red Sea resorts remain pleasant due to sea breezes and are significantly cheaper to visit.

Brilliant experience with Lady Egypt across Cairo, Luxor and Hurghada

Krit S

My husband and I had an excellent time in Egypt for 5 days thanks to Lady Egypt. With thanks to Nadin for being our point of contact, every step of the way was very well planned and executed in a smooth manner. Shams was our guide in Cairo, and she’s extremely knowledgeable and knows how to navigate her way through Cairo’s history. Ahmed in Luxor went out of his way to help us with logistical arrangements when our hotel wasn’t up to the mark. Mohammed in Hurgadha was great as well. Overall, a lovely place to visit, with thanks to Lady Egypt for their help, planning and coordination from the minute we landed to when we took off, and big hugs to Shams and Nadin. ❤️

Egypt with Lady Egypt Tours

Sarah P

Amazing 2 Week Tour with Lady Egypt! I recently did a 2-week tour of Egypt with Lady Egypt Tours and had an incredible experience from start to finish. Our guide, Mahmoud, was absolutely brilliant – like having a personal ancient history teacher by our side every day. His knowledge, passion, and storytelling brought Egypt’s history to life in the most fascinating way. Everything was well-organised, the itinerary was fantastic, and I felt completely looked after the whole time. I can’t recommend Lady Egypt and Mahmoud highly enough for anyone wanting to explore this beautiful country!

Lady Egypt Tours guides were incredible! Everyone was extremely helpful, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, outgoing and friendly. From the moment we met Nadine at the airport everything was taken care of and we didn't have to worry at all. All our guides for our tours throughout our stay in Egypt went above and beyond to ensure we received the best experience possible. We couldn't fault them and we have told all our friends that if they are to go to Egypt then they have to book through this company.
