Itinerary

Day 1 - Aswan Arrival & Embarkation Aboard the Sonesta Moon Goddess Nile Cruise

Your luxor nile cruise begins in Aswan — one of Egypt's most serene and captivating cities, where the Nile flows wide and calm between ancient granite boulders and golden desert banks. Upon arrival, our dedicated representative welcomes you warmly and escorts you to the elegant Sonesta Moon Goddess Nile Cruise, your distinguished floating home for the next three nights.
After a smooth and comfortable check-in, take time to settle into your beautifully designed cabin, where large panoramic windows frame the timeless Nile landscape and modern amenities ensure every comfort throughout your stay. Explore the vessel's thoughtfully designed facilities — the sun deck, swimming pool, lounge, and restaurant — before enjoying your first leisurely lunch onboard as the peaceful atmosphere of Aswan surrounds you.
The afternoon is dedicated to three of Aswan's most celebrated and historically significant landmarks. Your first visit is the Aswan High Dam — a remarkable feat of twentieth-century engineering whose construction transformed Egypt's agricultural landscape, controlled the seasonal flooding of the Nile, and created the vast expanse of Lake Nasser stretching southward toward Sudan. From there, your Egyptologist guide leads you to the fascinating Unfinished Obelisk, lying abandoned in its ancient granite quarry exactly as its creators left it thousands of years ago, offering a uniquely intimate and humbling insight into the extraordinary stone-cutting techniques employed by ancient Egyptian craftsmen.
Your first afternoon aboard this luxor nile cruise concludes with a scenic motorboat crossing to the enchanting island sanctuary of Philae Temple — a beautifully preserved monument dedicated to the beloved goddess Isis and relocated to the peaceful shores of Agilkia Island following the construction of the High Dam. As the late afternoon light falls softly across its elegant colonnaded courtyards and intricately carved reliefs, Philae creates an atmosphere of extraordinary beauty and timeless spirituality that perfectly sets the tone for the remarkable journey ahead.
Return to the Sonesta Moon Nile Cruise for a beautifully prepared dinner as the lights of Aswan reflect softly across the calm surface of the river.
Overnight onboard in Aswan.

After a relaxed and nourishing breakfast with the Nile stretching endlessly beyond your window, your luxor nile cruise begins its unhurried northward passage along the river. Settle onto the sun deck as the granite landscapes of Aswan gradually give way to one of the most quietly beautiful stretches of the entire Nile Valley. Lush farmlands line the riverbanks, traditional villages appear and disappear around each gentle bend, fishermen guide their small boats through the water, and scenes of daily life unfold before you exactly as they have along this river for thousands of uninterrupted years — a living panorama that no photograph can fully capture.
Your first destination is the remarkable Temple of Kom Ombo, perched dramatically above the riverbank and unlike any other ancient monument along the Nile. This rare double sanctuary was constructed in perfect architectural symmetry and dedicated simultaneously to two powerful and contrasting deities — Sobek, the formidable crocodile god associated with the fertility and power of the Nile, and Horus the Elder, the noble falcon god of kingship and divine protection. The temple's twin halls, mirrored sanctuaries, and richly detailed carvings reveal the fascinating theological complexity of ancient Egyptian religious thought. A nilometer used by ancient priests to measure the river's flood levels and a remarkable collection of mummified crocodiles add further layers of fascination to this extraordinary luxor nile cruise destination.
Returning to the Sonesta Moon Goddess Nile Cruise for lunch, your journey continues northward toward Edfu, where the afternoon brings one of the most impressive ancient monuments in the entire country. The Temple of Horus at Edfu is Egypt's best-preserved ancient temple — a towering Ptolemaic masterpiece whose enormous entrance pylons, elaborately decorated hypostyle hall, and richly carved inner sanctuaries offer an unparalleled window into the religious ceremonies, mythological traditions, and artistic achievements of ancient Egypt. Your Egyptologist guide brings every carved scene and hieroglyphic inscription vividly to life, transforming this extraordinary luxor nile cruise highlight into a deeply immersive and genuinely memorable encounter with the ancient world.
Return to the Sonesta Moon Nile Cruise for a relaxed dinner as the vessel continues its graceful northward passage along the river.
Overnight onboard.

Wake to the gentle movement of the Sonesta Moon Goddess Nile Cruise as your luxor nile cruise continues its journey through the fascinating Esna Lock — a navigational feature where the vessel is carefully raised or lowered through the lock's chambers to continue its passage along the river's changing water levels, offering a striking and memorable contrast between the ancient world visible along the surrounding riverbanks and the engineering achievements of the modern age. Enjoy a leisurely breakfast onboard as Luxor — once the magnificent capital of ancient Egypt and today described by many as the world's greatest open-air museum — draws closer on the horizon.
After a relaxed lunch onboard, your exploration of Luxor's legendary East Bank begins at the vast and awe-inspiring Karnak Temple Complex — one of the largest and most historically significant religious structures ever constructed by human hands. Accumulated through the ambitious contributions of successive pharaohs across more than two thousand years of continuous construction, Karnak's sheer scale and architectural grandeur are genuinely overwhelming. Walking through the iconic Great Hypostyle Hall — a breathtaking forest of 134 monumental columns soaring skyward, their every surface covered in sacred inscriptions, divine imagery, and royal proclamations — is an experience of extraordinary power that never fails to move even the most seasoned traveler. The Sacred Lake, towering obelisks, and multiple sanctuaries dedicated to the gods of the Egyptian pantheon complete a visit that stands as one of the defining highlights of any luxor nile cruise experience.
As the afternoon light turns golden and dusk approaches, your Egyptologist guide leads you southward along the corniche to the graceful Luxor Temple — an elegantly proportioned sanctuary situated at the very heart of the modern city and connected to Karnak by the historic Avenue of Sphinxes. Illuminated magnificently as evening descends, its ancient columns, colossal entrance statues, and sacred inner chambers take on an atmosphere of timeless and deeply moving majesty. Return to the Sonesta Moon Nile Cruise for dinner as the lights of Luxor shimmer and reflect across the quiet surface of the Nile.
Overnight onboard in Luxor.

The final morning of your luxor nile cruise is reserved for the legendary West Bank of Luxor — an archaeological landscape of such extraordinary richness and historical significance that it stands without equal anywhere in the ancient world. After a final peaceful breakfast aboard the Sonesta Moon Goddess Nile Cruise, you cross the river with your Egyptologist guide to spend a morning among monuments that have shaped humanity's understanding of ancient civilization for generations.
Your journey begins in the Valley of the Kings — a dramatic and otherworldly desert valley enclosed by pale limestone cliffs where the pharaohs of Egypt's New Kingdom were laid to rest in elaborately decorated underground tombs. Descending into these extraordinary royal burial chambers, surrounded by ceiling-high walls of vivid color depicting scenes from the Book of the Dead and the pharaoh's celestial journey through the underworld, is a profound and deeply moving experience that connects you directly with the beliefs, artistry, and spiritual world of a civilization that flourished here over three thousand years ago.
From the Valley of the Kings, your luxor nile cruise farewell tour continues to the magnificent Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari — a breathtaking terraced monument rising in elegant tiers from the desert floor against the dramatic backdrop of towering limestone cliffs, dedicated to one of ancient Egypt's most remarkable and visionary female rulers. Your morning concludes at the iconic Colossi of Memnon, where two immense seated figures of Pharaoh Amenhotep III have maintained their silent and steadfast vigil over the Theban plain for more than three thousand four hundred years — their sheer and imposing scale a powerful and humbling final reminder of the extraordinary civilization whose greatest monuments you have had the privilege of exploring throughout this unforgettable luxor nile cruise experience.
Following this remarkable final morning, you are transferred comfortably and professionally to your onward destination — bringing your extraordinary voyage aboard the elegant Sonesta Moon Nile Cruise to its memorable conclusion, and leaving you with the kind of lasting impressions that only Egypt, and only the Nile, can truly create.

Day 1 - Luxor Embarkation, Begin Your Luxor Nile Cruise

Your five-day luxor nile cruise begins in the magnificent city of Luxor — once the glorious capital of ancient Egypt's New Kingdom and today home to the greatest concentration of ancient monuments anywhere on Earth. Upon arrival, our representative welcomes you and transfers you smoothly to the elegant Sonesta Moon Goddess Nile Cruise — your beautifully appointed floating home for the next four nights. Settle into your spacious and well-designed cabin, enjoy a leisurely welcome lunch onboard, and allow the timeless atmosphere of the Nile to begin its gentle and irresistible effect.
Your afternoon exploration of Luxor's East Bank begins at the legendary Karnak Temple Complex, where the iconic Great Hypostyle Hall — its 134 monumental columns rising dramatically toward the sky and covered in intricate sacred carvings accumulated across three thousand years of continuous religious devotion — creates an experience of overwhelming scale, grandeur, and spiritual power. As the afternoon light softens and evening approaches, your luxor nile cruise itinerary continues to the graceful Luxor Temple, beautifully illuminated along the Nile corniche as dusk descends over the city. Return to the Sonesta Moon Nile Cruise for a warm and celebratory welcome dinner as your extraordinary journey officially and memorably begins.
Overnight in Luxor.

After a relaxed breakfast with panoramic Nile views, your second day aboard the Sonesta Moon Goddess Nile Cruise crosses to the legendary West Bank of Luxor for a morning that many travelers describe as the single most powerful and memorable experience of their entire Egypt journey. In the Valley of the Kings, you descend into the elaborately painted royal tombs of ancient pharaohs, where vivid scenes from the Book of the Dead and the journey through the underworld cover every surface from floor to ceiling. Your Egyptologist guide weaves the stories of gods, kings, and ancient beliefs into a captivating narrative that transforms the visit into genuine discovery rather than ordinary sightseeing.
The Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari follows — a breathtaking terraced monument carved into the face of desert cliffs and dedicated to one of ancient Egypt's most powerful and visionary female rulers, its architectural elegance and natural dramatic setting creating a composition unlike anything else in Egypt. Your morning concludes at the Colossi of Memnon, where two immense seated figures have stood in majestic silence over the Theban plain for more than three thousand four hundred years, their presence as commanding and evocative today as it was in antiquity.
Return to the Sonesta Moon Goddess Nile Cruise for lunch before your luxor nile cruise sets course southward, passing through the historic Esna Lock as the afternoon unfolds. The sun deck becomes the finest possible vantage point as palm-lined riverbanks, ancient villages, golden agricultural fields, and desert cliffs drift peacefully by — the Nile Valley in its most timeless and captivating form.
Overnight sailing toward Edfu.

The third day of your luxor nile cruise delivers two of the most celebrated and rewarding temple destinations along the entire length of the Upper Nile. After breakfast aboard the Sonesta Moon Goddess Nile Cruise, your morning begins at the magnificent Temple of Horus in Edfu — Egypt's finest and most completely preserved ancient temple, and a monument of such architectural completeness and decorative richness that it stands in a category entirely of its own among the ancient world's surviving religious structures. Its towering entrance pylons, elaborately decorated hypostyle hall, and deeply carved mythological scenes depicting the eternal conflict between Horus and Seth combine to create an experience of profound historical immersion that your Egyptologist guide enriches with knowledge, passion, and insight at every step.
Sailing onward, the Sonesta Moon Goddess Nile Cruise arrives at the remarkable Kom Ombo Temple — perched dramatically above the riverbank and dedicated in perfect architectural symmetry to both Sobek, the powerful crocodile god of the Nile, and Horus the Elder, the falcon deity of divine kingship and protection. The temple's mirrored layout, fascinating collection of ancient crocodile mummies, and extraordinary carvings depicting what appear to be early medical and surgical instruments make Kom Ombo one of the most thought-provoking and genuinely captivating destinations of the entire luxor nile cruise journey. As evening approaches, the Sonesta Moon Nile Cruise continues its graceful passage southward beneath skies shifting through extraordinary shades of gold, orange, and deep crimson. Overnight onboard.

Aswan takes full and richly deserved center stage on the fourth day of your luxor nile cruise. Egypt's most southerly major city possesses a character and atmosphere entirely unlike anywhere else along the Nile — softer in pace, warmer in culture, and infused with the distinctive color and heritage of Nubian civilization that gives this stretch of the river valley its unique and deeply appealing identity.
Your morning begins with a scenic motorboat crossing to the island sanctuary of Philae Temple — dedicated to the beloved goddess Isis and possessing a combination of physical beauty and spiritual atmosphere that few ancient monuments anywhere in Egypt can match. Its elegant colonnaded courtyards, beautifully preserved carved reliefs, and serene island setting in the soft morning light create an experience of genuine and lasting magic. From Philae, your luxor nile cruise itinerary continues to the Aswan High Dam, whose construction in the 1960s and 1970s reshaped Egypt's entire agricultural landscape and created the vast Lake Nasser stretching southward toward Sudan. A visit to the remarkable Unfinished Obelisk in the ancient granite quarries — abandoned mid-creation thousands of years ago and lying exactly as its craftsmen left it — rounds out a morning of fascinating historical contrasts between the ancient and the modern worlds.
Return to the Sonesta Moon Nile Cruise for a leisurely lunch and a relaxed afternoon onboard, enjoying the peaceful Aswan atmosphere from the comfort of the sun deck before a final evening of relaxation on the river.
Overnight onboard in Aswan.

Your final morning aboard the Sonesta Moon Goddess Nile Cruise begins gently and peacefully with breakfast as the early light of the Egyptian morning falls across the Nile outside your cabin window — a quiet and deeply pleasant final hour aboard a vessel that has carried you through some of the most extraordinary landscapes and monuments in the world. The optional morning visit to a traditional Nubian village offers a warm and memorable conclusion to your luxor nile cruise experience — colorfully painted houses, centuries-old traditions, and the genuine warmth and hospitality of the Nubian people creating a final encounter with Egyptian culture that is as moving and authentic as any of the ancient monuments visited throughout the journey.
Following this optional excursion and a final morning onboard, disembarkation in Aswan brings your remarkable luxor nile cruise voyage aboard the elegant Sonesta Moon Goddess Nile Cruise to its conclusion — not with sadness, but with the deep and lasting satisfaction of having experienced something truly extraordinary along one of the world's most legendary and beautiful rivers.

Frequently Asked Questions

We recommend securing your reservation 3 to 6 months prior to your intended travel date. This is particularly important during Egypt's peak season, which runs from October through April. Booking early not only guarantees availability but also gives our team ample time to craft a truly personalised experience tailored to your preferences.

Yes, we are pleased to offer preferential rates for groups of 6 or more travellers. As every group has unique requirements, we invite you to contact us directly so that we may prepare a customised quotation suited to your party size, itinerary, and interests.

Our tour packages are designed to provide a seamless, all-encompassing experience. Inclusions typically cover accommodation, guided excursions, select meals, and all transportation within Egypt. Specific inclusions vary by package, and a full breakdown is provided at the time of booking so you know exactly what to expect.

Travel insurance is not a mandatory requirement; however, we strongly advise all clients to obtain comprehensive coverage prior to departure. International travel can bring unforeseen circumstances — from medical emergencies to flight disruptions — and adequate insurance ensures that your journey is protected from the unexpected.

Egypt is genuinely safe for travelers, and millions visit each year without incident. Tourist police are a highly visible presence at every major site, resort town, and transport hub. The Egyptian government treats tourism as a national priority — and that protection is real, not just on paper. Common sense applies as it would anywhere: stay aware of your surroundings, avoid unsanctioned political gatherings, and stick to well-traveled areas after dark. The Egyptian people themselves are famously warm and hospitable toward visitors.

Most nationalities — including those from the US, UK, EU, Australia, and Canada — can purchase a single-entry tourist visa on arrival at Cairo International Airport. The cost is USD $25 or the equivalent in Euros, paid in cash only (cards are not accepted at the visa desk). Your passport must be valid for at least six months from your travel date. Alternatively, Egypt's e-Visa portal (visa2egypt.gov.eg) lets 41 nationalities apply online before departure. However, many travelers find it simpler to just buy it at the airport.

Solo female travel in Egypt is increasingly common, and many women do it comfortably with proper preparation. Dress modestly outside of Red Sea resort areas, be confident in your manner, and don't hesitate to be firm with anyone who is overly persistent. Harassment does occur, particularly in busy tourist markets, but it is usually verbal and easily managed by moving on. Booking tours with reputable operators removes a lot of friction and lets you focus on the experience itself. Many female solo travelers describe Egypt as one of their most memorable journeys.

Yes — a standard tourist visa is valid for 30 days, but extensions are obtainable. Visit the Mogamma building in Cairo's Tahrir Square, or go to the passport offices in Luxor, Alexandria, or Aswan. Extensions allow you to stay for an additional month. Come prepared with your passport, a photo, and a small fee. If you're leaving Egypt and re-entering (for example, via Jordan), you'll need a fresh visa on your return — your original is cancelled at departure.

The Egyptian Pound (EGP) is the local currency. Hotels, large restaurants, and most shops in tourist areas accept major credit cards and US dollars or Euros at a reasonable rate. That said, always keep some Egyptian Pounds on hand — local markets, small cafés, taxi drivers, and tips all run on cash. ATMs are widely available at airports, banks, and shopping centers across all major tourist cities, and they dispense Egyptian Pounds directly.

Tipping — known locally as "baksheesh" — is a well-established part of Egyptian culture and an important part of service workers' income. At restaurants, 10–15% is standard. For private guides, EGP 100–200 per day is appreciated. Drivers typically receive EGP 50–100 for a full day. At major sites like the Pyramids, you may encounter unofficial "helpers" who offer unsolicited assistance and then expect payment — it's perfectly fine to politely decline any help you didn't ask for.

Absolutely — bargaining is part of the experience in Egypt's bazaars and souks. Opening prices at markets like Cairo's Khan el-Khalili are usually two to three times what a seller expects to receive. Approach it with good humor, don't take the first price, and feel free to walk away — that often brings a better offer. Fixed-price shops and mall stores are the exception: what you see is what you pay. The goal is always a fair deal, not a "win," so keep it friendly.

Lightweight, loose-fitting clothing that covers your shoulders and knees is ideal — both for cultural respect and practical comfort in the heat. Think linen trousers, long cotton skirts, and breathable tops. Men should avoid shorts at historic and religious sites. Flat, closed-toe shoes are strongly recommended when walking around temples and pyramids — the ground is uneven and dusty. Red Sea resort towns like Hurghada and El Gouna are far more relaxed; beach attire is completely normal there.

Shoes must be removed before entering any mosque — bring a bag to carry them if you prefer not to leave them at the door. Women are asked to cover their hair and wear clothing that covers arms and legs; a large scarf in your day bag solves this easily. Men in shorts may be lent a wrap at the entrance of some mosques. Most mosques are closed to non-Muslim visitors during prayer times, so check in advance for the five daily prayer schedules, especially Friday midday prayers when many sites close temporarily.

Yes, alcohol is legal and available — but selectively so. You'll find beer, wine, and spirits at hotels, upscale restaurants, licensed bars, and duty-free shops. Outside of tourist establishments and resort areas, alcohol is rarely sold. Drinking in public streets is not acceptable and is technically prohibited. You may bring up to 2 liters of alcohol into Egypt duty-free. The legal drinking age is 21.

Yes — entry to the interior of the Pyramids is possible but limited. Only a fixed number of tickets are released each day and they sell out quickly, especially at peak season. Tickets must be purchased in person at the main entrance; online booking is not available for interior access. Arrive early — ideally before 8 AM. Be aware that the passages inside are narrow, low, and warm. If you're claustrophobic, the experience of the exterior and plateau is every bit as spectacular.

Photography inside the tombs is prohibited — a rule that is actively enforced. Cameras and phones are typically required to be put away before entering. The reason isn't arbitrary: flash photography, even from smartphones, accelerates the deterioration of thousands-of-years-old paint and pigment on tomb walls. Respect the rule. What you can do is photograph everything outside, and the imagery inside is so vivid it will remain in your memory long after the visit.

A Nile cruise between Luxor and Aswan is one of the finest ways to experience Upper Egypt — watching temples emerge from the riverbanks as you sail is genuinely unlike anything else. Classic motor cruises (3–5 nights) are the most common and affordable. For a more intimate, slower experience, a Dahabiya — a traditional wooden sailing vessel accommodating only 8–16 guests — offers unhurried access to small villages and lesser-visited temples. Lake Nasser cruises, sailing south of Aswan toward Abu Simbel, are for the truly adventurous.

October through April is the golden window — temperatures are comfortable (15–28°C / 60–82°F) and the light is extraordinary. December and January are peak season with the highest hotel rates and crowds. March to May is a sweet spot: warm but not oppressive, with fewer crowds and lower prices. Summer (June–September) is intensely hot in Cairo and Upper Egypt — up to 45°C (113°F) — though the Red Sea resorts remain pleasant due to sea breezes and are significantly cheaper to visit.

Brilliant experience with Lady Egypt across Cairo, Luxor and Hurghada

Krit S

My husband and I had an excellent time in Egypt for 5 days thanks to Lady Egypt. With thanks to Nadin for being our point of contact, every step of the way was very well planned and executed in a smooth manner. Shams was our guide in Cairo, and she’s extremely knowledgeable and knows how to navigate her way through Cairo’s history. Ahmed in Luxor went out of his way to help us with logistical arrangements when our hotel wasn’t up to the mark. Mohammed in Hurgadha was great as well. Overall, a lovely place to visit, with thanks to Lady Egypt for their help, planning and coordination from the minute we landed to when we took off, and big hugs to Shams and Nadin. ❤️

Amazing 2 Week Tour with Lady Egypt! I recently did a 2-week tour of Egypt with Lady Egypt Tours and had an incredible experience from start to finish. Our guide, Mahmoud, was absolutely brilliant – like having a personal ancient history teacher by our side every day. His knowledge, passion, and storytelling brought Egypt’s history to life in the most fascinating way. Everything was well-organised, the itinerary was fantastic, and I felt completely looked after the whole time. I can’t recommend Lady Egypt and Mahmoud highly enough for anyone wanting to explore this beautiful country!
