Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival in Aswan, Embarkation & Philae Temple Experienc

Your journey aboard the esmeralda nile cruise begins in Aswan, a destination known for its calm atmosphere and striking natural beauty. From the moment you arrive, the pace of life feels different—more relaxed, more connected to the rhythm of the Nile itself. You are welcomed by a professional representative and transferred comfortably to your cruise ship, where a smooth and efficient embarkation process introduces you to your floating retreat for the coming days.

Once onboard, you are escorted to your cabin, where elegant design and modern comfort create an immediate sense of ease. Large panoramic windows reveal your first uninterrupted views of the Nile, offering a quiet moment to settle in and absorb the beauty of your surroundings.

Lunch is served onboard, presenting a refined selection of international and Egyptian dishes that set the tone for your nile cruise in aswan. The dining experience is both relaxed and sophisticated, allowing you to enjoy the beginning of your journey at a comfortable pace.

In the afternoon, your exploration begins with a visit to the High Dam, a modern engineering landmark that reshaped Egypt’s relationship with the Nile. Standing atop the dam, you gain a broader perspective on the river’s significance—not only historically but also in shaping modern Egypt.

You then continue to the Unfinished Obelisk, a fascinating site that offers a glimpse into ancient Egyptian craftsmanship. Here, the immense scale of unfinished stone blocks reveals the ambition and skill of ancient builders, while the visible tool marks connect you directly to the past.

The highlight of your day follows with a tranquil boat ride across the Nile to Philae Temple. Set on Agilkia Island, the temple appears almost suspended between water and sky. Dedicated to the goddess Isis, it carries an atmosphere of serenity and quiet beauty. As you walk through its colonnades and chambers, the soft light reflecting off the water enhances the sense of timelessness.

Returning to the esmeralda nile cruise, you are welcomed back into an atmosphere of comfort and elegance. Dinner is served in a refined setting, followed by a relaxing evening onboard. Whether you choose to unwind on the deck or enjoy the lounge, the gentle movement of the river creates a perfect end to your first day.

By late morning, you arrive at Kom Ombo, home to one of Egypt’s most distinctive temples. Uniquely dedicated to two gods—Sobek and Horus—the temple’s symmetrical design reflects a fascinating duality in ancient Egyptian religion. Walking through its halls, you encounter detailed carvings that depict medical instruments, rituals, and daily life, providing insight into the advanced knowledge of the time.

After your visit, return to the esmeralda nile cruise for lunch as the journey continues toward Edfu. The afternoon invites relaxation, allowing you to fully enjoy the calm rhythm of the Nile. As evening approaches, dinner is served onboard, accompanied by a relaxed atmosphere and optional entertainment. The ship continues its journey under the night sky, carrying you closer to Luxor.

Overnight aboard the esmeralda nile cruise in Edfu

After breakfast, step ashore in Edfu and take a traditional horse-drawn carriage ride through the town’s streets, adding a touch of authenticity to your journey. Your destination is the Temple of Horus, one of the best-preserved temples in Egypt.

The temple’s massive pylons, intricate carvings, and well-preserved chambers provide a vivid picture of ancient religious practices. As you walk through its halls, the stories of gods and myths come to life, making this one of the most engaging visits of your nile cruise to luxor.

Returning to the esmeralda nile cruise, continue sailing toward Luxor while enjoying lunch onboard. The journey itself becomes part of the experience, as the Nile reveals its ever-changing scenery.

Upon arrival in Luxor, begin your exploration of the East Bank, starting with Karnak Temple. This vast complex stands as a testament to centuries of construction and devotion, with towering columns and monumental gateways that leave a lasting impression.

You then visit Luxor Temple, a beautifully preserved site that once served as a center for royal ceremonies. Its harmonious design and historical significance offer a perfect conclusion to your day.

Return to the esmeralda nile cruise for dinner and a relaxing evening onboard.

Overnight aboard the esmeralda nile cruise in Luxor

Your final morning begins with a visit to Luxor’s West Bank, where ancient Egypt’s most iconic burial sites are located. Crossing the Nile at sunrise carries symbolic meaning, reflecting ancient beliefs about the journey to the afterlife.

You explore the Valley of the Kings, where richly decorated tombs reveal vivid depictions of ancient beliefs. Continue to the Temple of Hatshepsut, an architectural masterpiece built into the cliffs, followed by the Colossi of Memnon.

Return to the esmeralda nile cruise for breakfast before disembarkation, marking the end of your unforgettable nile cruise to luxor.

Day 1 - Arrival in Luxor, Embarkation & East Bank Exploration

Your journey aboard the esmeralda nile cruise begins in Luxor, a city where the grandeur of ancient Egypt blends seamlessly with the rhythm of modern life. Upon arrival, you are warmly welcomed and transferred in comfort to your cruise ship, where a smooth embarkation process introduces you to your elegant floating residence for the days ahead.

Stepping onboard, you are immediately immersed in an atmosphere of refined comfort. After check-in, you are escorted to your cabin, where contemporary design, soft tones, and thoughtful amenities create a relaxing private retreat. Large panoramic windows reveal your first uninterrupted views of the Nile, setting a tranquil tone for your journey.

Lunch is served onboard, offering a carefully curated selection of international cuisine alongside authentic Egyptian flavors. This first dining experience introduces the level of quality and attention to detail that defines your nile cruise to luxor.

In the afternoon, your exploration begins with a visit to Karnak Temple, one of the most impressive and expansive religious complexes ever built. This monumental site reflects centuries of devotion and architectural evolution. As you walk through the Great Hypostyle Hall, surrounded by towering stone columns intricately carved with hieroglyphics, you gain a profound sense of the scale and ambition of ancient Egypt.

You then continue to Luxor Temple, a beautifully preserved structure that once served as a central hub for royal ceremonies and festivals. Its elegant design, combined with its historical significance, offers a more intimate yet equally captivating experience. As the sun begins to set, the temple’s warm illumination enhances its beauty, creating a magical and memorable atmosphere.

Returning to the esmeralda nile cruise, you are welcomed back with comfort and calm. Dinner is served in a refined setting, followed by a relaxing evening onboard. Whether enjoying the lounge or stepping onto the deck to watch the reflections of Luxor shimmer across the Nile, your first day ends in quiet elegance.

Overnight aboard the esmeralda nile cruise in Luxor

Your morning begins with the soft light of sunrise casting a golden glow over the Nile. After breakfast onboard your esmeralda nile cruise, you cross to Luxor’s West Bank, a region deeply connected to ancient Egyptian beliefs about the afterlife.

Your first destination is the Valley of the Kings, a vast necropolis hidden within the desert hills. This remarkable site served as the burial ground for Egypt’s most powerful pharaohs. Inside the tombs, vibrant wall paintings depict detailed scenes of the journey to the afterlife, preserved with extraordinary clarity. Walking through these ancient corridors offers a powerful connection to a civilization that continues to fascinate the world.

You then visit the Temple of Hatshepsut, a striking architectural masterpiece built into the cliffs of Deir el-Bahari. Its tiered design rises gracefully from the desert floor, reflecting both innovation and elegance. Dedicated to one of Egypt’s most influential female rulers, the temple stands as a symbol of strength and vision.

Before returning, you stop at the Colossi of Memnon, two massive statues that have stood for over three thousand years, silently guarding the entrance to what was once a grand temple complex.

Back onboard the esmeralda nile cruise, lunch is served as your journey continues southward. This marks the beginning of a more relaxed phase of your nile cruise in aswan, where the beauty of the Nile itself becomes the highlight. The afternoon invites you to unwind—whether on the sun deck, by the pool, or in the lounge—as the scenery unfolds in a peaceful rhythm.

As evening falls, dinner is served onboard. The gentle movement of the ship, combined with the quiet atmosphere of the river, creates a deeply calming experience that defines this stage of your journey.

Overnight aboard the esmeralda nile cruise en route to Edfu

Morning arrives with your esmeralda nile cruise docking in Edfu, a town that retains a strong connection to traditional Egyptian life. After breakfast, you step ashore for a short yet memorable journey by horse-drawn carriage, offering a glimpse into the local atmosphere.

Your destination is the Temple of Horus, one of the best-preserved temples in Egypt. Its towering entrance pylons, expansive courtyards, and detailed carvings provide a vivid representation of ancient Egyptian religious practices. The temple’s reliefs, illustrating the mythological battle between Horus and Seth, add a dynamic storytelling element that brings the site to life.

Returning to the esmeralda nile cruise, you continue sailing toward Kom Ombo while enjoying lunch onboard. This part of your nile cruise to luxor offers uninterrupted views of the Nile’s natural beauty, where rural landscapes and traditional villages pass quietly by.

In the late afternoon, you arrive at Kom Ombo Temple, uniquely dedicated to two gods—Sobek and Horus the Elder. Its symmetrical design sets it apart from other temples, while its riverside location adds to its charm. Visiting the temple in the soft light of sunset enhances its atmosphere, creating a memorable and visually striking experience.

After your visit, return to the esmeralda nile cruise for dinner. The evening is yours to relax and reflect, perhaps enjoying the open deck as the ship continues its journey under the stars.

Overnight aboard the esmeralda nile cruise in Kom Ombo

As your esmeralda nile cruise approaches Aswan, the scenery transforms dramatically. The lush greenery of Upper Egypt gives way to granite outcrops and scattered islands, creating one of the most picturesque landscapes along the Nile.

After breakfast, your exploration begins with a visit to the High Dam, a remarkable engineering project that has played a crucial role in Egypt’s development. From here, you continue to the Unfinished Obelisk, where ancient quarrying techniques are still visible in the massive stone.

The highlight of the day is a tranquil boat ride to Philae Temple, located on an island surrounded by calm waters. Dedicated to the goddess Isis, the temple offers a unique combination of beauty, history, and serenity. Its setting creates a peaceful atmosphere that leaves a lasting impression.

Returning to the esmeralda nile cruise, you have time to relax and enjoy the final afternoon of your nile cruise in aswan. The evening brings a farewell dinner, where fine cuisine and attentive service come together to celebrate the conclusion of your journey.

Overnight aboard the esmeralda nile cruise in Aswan

Your final morning aboard the esmeralda nile cruise begins with a sense of calm and reflection. The Nile at sunrise offers one last unforgettable view, as the water reflects the soft morning light and the surrounding landscape awakens gently.

After breakfast, it is time for disembarkation. As you leave the ship, you carry with you not only memories of remarkable sites and landscapes, but also the experience of a journey that combined discovery, comfort, and timeless beauty.

Your nile cruise in aswan may come to an end, but its impressions remain—an enduring connection to Egypt’s history and the quiet rhythm of the Nile.

Frequently Asked Questions

We recommend securing your reservation 3 to 6 months prior to your intended travel date. This is particularly important during Egypt's peak season, which runs from October through April. Booking early not only guarantees availability but also gives our team ample time to craft a truly personalised experience tailored to your preferences.

Yes, we are pleased to offer preferential rates for groups of 6 or more travellers. As every group has unique requirements, we invite you to contact us directly so that we may prepare a customised quotation suited to your party size, itinerary, and interests.

Our tour packages are designed to provide a seamless, all-encompassing experience. Inclusions typically cover accommodation, guided excursions, select meals, and all transportation within Egypt. Specific inclusions vary by package, and a full breakdown is provided at the time of booking so you know exactly what to expect.

Travel insurance is not a mandatory requirement; however, we strongly advise all clients to obtain comprehensive coverage prior to departure. International travel can bring unforeseen circumstances — from medical emergencies to flight disruptions — and adequate insurance ensures that your journey is protected from the unexpected.

Egypt is genuinely safe for travelers, and millions visit each year without incident. Tourist police are a highly visible presence at every major site, resort town, and transport hub. The Egyptian government treats tourism as a national priority — and that protection is real, not just on paper. Common sense applies as it would anywhere: stay aware of your surroundings, avoid unsanctioned political gatherings, and stick to well-traveled areas after dark. The Egyptian people themselves are famously warm and hospitable toward visitors.

Most nationalities — including those from the US, UK, EU, Australia, and Canada — can purchase a single-entry tourist visa on arrival at Cairo International Airport. The cost is USD $25 or the equivalent in Euros, paid in cash only (cards are not accepted at the visa desk). Your passport must be valid for at least six months from your travel date. Alternatively, Egypt's e-Visa portal (visa2egypt.gov.eg) lets 41 nationalities apply online before departure. However, many travelers find it simpler to just buy it at the airport.

Solo female travel in Egypt is increasingly common, and many women do it comfortably with proper preparation. Dress modestly outside of Red Sea resort areas, be confident in your manner, and don't hesitate to be firm with anyone who is overly persistent. Harassment does occur, particularly in busy tourist markets, but it is usually verbal and easily managed by moving on. Booking tours with reputable operators removes a lot of friction and lets you focus on the experience itself. Many female solo travelers describe Egypt as one of their most memorable journeys.

Yes — a standard tourist visa is valid for 30 days, but extensions are obtainable. Visit the Mogamma building in Cairo's Tahrir Square, or go to the passport offices in Luxor, Alexandria, or Aswan. Extensions allow you to stay for an additional month. Come prepared with your passport, a photo, and a small fee. If you're leaving Egypt and re-entering (for example, via Jordan), you'll need a fresh visa on your return — your original is cancelled at departure.

The Egyptian Pound (EGP) is the local currency. Hotels, large restaurants, and most shops in tourist areas accept major credit cards and US dollars or Euros at a reasonable rate. That said, always keep some Egyptian Pounds on hand — local markets, small cafés, taxi drivers, and tips all run on cash. ATMs are widely available at airports, banks, and shopping centers across all major tourist cities, and they dispense Egyptian Pounds directly.

Tipping — known locally as "baksheesh" — is a well-established part of Egyptian culture and an important part of service workers' income. At restaurants, 10–15% is standard. For private guides, EGP 100–200 per day is appreciated. Drivers typically receive EGP 50–100 for a full day. At major sites like the Pyramids, you may encounter unofficial "helpers" who offer unsolicited assistance and then expect payment — it's perfectly fine to politely decline any help you didn't ask for.

Absolutely — bargaining is part of the experience in Egypt's bazaars and souks. Opening prices at markets like Cairo's Khan el-Khalili are usually two to three times what a seller expects to receive. Approach it with good humor, don't take the first price, and feel free to walk away — that often brings a better offer. Fixed-price shops and mall stores are the exception: what you see is what you pay. The goal is always a fair deal, not a "win," so keep it friendly.

Lightweight, loose-fitting clothing that covers your shoulders and knees is ideal — both for cultural respect and practical comfort in the heat. Think linen trousers, long cotton skirts, and breathable tops. Men should avoid shorts at historic and religious sites. Flat, closed-toe shoes are strongly recommended when walking around temples and pyramids — the ground is uneven and dusty. Red Sea resort towns like Hurghada and El Gouna are far more relaxed; beach attire is completely normal there.

Shoes must be removed before entering any mosque — bring a bag to carry them if you prefer not to leave them at the door. Women are asked to cover their hair and wear clothing that covers arms and legs; a large scarf in your day bag solves this easily. Men in shorts may be lent a wrap at the entrance of some mosques. Most mosques are closed to non-Muslim visitors during prayer times, so check in advance for the five daily prayer schedules, especially Friday midday prayers when many sites close temporarily.

Yes, alcohol is legal and available — but selectively so. You'll find beer, wine, and spirits at hotels, upscale restaurants, licensed bars, and duty-free shops. Outside of tourist establishments and resort areas, alcohol is rarely sold. Drinking in public streets is not acceptable and is technically prohibited. You may bring up to 2 liters of alcohol into Egypt duty-free. The legal drinking age is 21.

Yes — entry to the interior of the Pyramids is possible but limited. Only a fixed number of tickets are released each day and they sell out quickly, especially at peak season. Tickets must be purchased in person at the main entrance; online booking is not available for interior access. Arrive early — ideally before 8 AM. Be aware that the passages inside are narrow, low, and warm. If you're claustrophobic, the experience of the exterior and plateau is every bit as spectacular.

Photography inside the tombs is prohibited — a rule that is actively enforced. Cameras and phones are typically required to be put away before entering. The reason isn't arbitrary: flash photography, even from smartphones, accelerates the deterioration of thousands-of-years-old paint and pigment on tomb walls. Respect the rule. What you can do is photograph everything outside, and the imagery inside is so vivid it will remain in your memory long after the visit.

A Nile cruise between Luxor and Aswan is one of the finest ways to experience Upper Egypt — watching temples emerge from the riverbanks as you sail is genuinely unlike anything else. Classic motor cruises (3–5 nights) are the most common and affordable. For a more intimate, slower experience, a Dahabiya — a traditional wooden sailing vessel accommodating only 8–16 guests — offers unhurried access to small villages and lesser-visited temples. Lake Nasser cruises, sailing south of Aswan toward Abu Simbel, are for the truly adventurous.

October through April is the golden window — temperatures are comfortable (15–28°C / 60–82°F) and the light is extraordinary. December and January are peak season with the highest hotel rates and crowds. March to May is a sweet spot: warm but not oppressive, with fewer crowds and lower prices. Summer (June–September) is intensely hot in Cairo and Upper Egypt — up to 45°C (113°F) — though the Red Sea resorts remain pleasant due to sea breezes and are significantly cheaper to visit.

Brilliant experience with Lady Egypt across Cairo, Luxor and Hurghada

Krit S

My husband and I had an excellent time in Egypt for 5 days thanks to Lady Egypt. With thanks to Nadin for being our point of contact, every step of the way was very well planned and executed in a smooth manner. Shams was our guide in Cairo, and she’s extremely knowledgeable and knows how to navigate her way through Cairo’s history. Ahmed in Luxor went out of his way to help us with logistical arrangements when our hotel wasn’t up to the mark. Mohammed in Hurgadha was great as well. Overall, a lovely place to visit, with thanks to Lady Egypt for their help, planning and coordination from the minute we landed to when we took off, and big hugs to Shams and Nadin. ❤️

Amazing 2 Week Tour with Lady Egypt! I recently did a 2-week tour of Egypt with Lady Egypt Tours and had an incredible experience from start to finish. Our guide, Mahmoud, was absolutely brilliant – like having a personal ancient history teacher by our side every day. His knowledge, passion, and storytelling brought Egypt’s history to life in the most fascinating way. Everything was well-organised, the itinerary was fantastic, and I felt completely looked after the whole time. I can’t recommend Lady Egypt and Mahmoud highly enough for anyone wanting to explore this beautiful country!
