Day 6 (From the desert to the mountains of Oman)

Day 6 (From the desert to the mountains of Oman)

After a hearty breakfast we leave the desert for the Hadjar Mountains where a new adventure awaits you. Along the way the medieval village of Ibra, surrounded by innumerable watchtowers, is well worth a visit. In Sinaw a visit to the original Souq takes us back to times gone by. Here the trading of
products  is not done by tourists but by the local bedouins and families and you can smell the flavor of fresh spices and frakinceces wafting through the narrow alleys. A little bit later we reach the deserted village of Birkat Al Mauz which is situated at the foot of Jebel Akhdar. We will stroll along the plantation of dates and the water canals (Alfalaj) towards the old town center. The falaj system is one of the listed cultural UNESCO world heritage sites in Oman.

Jebel Akhdar means green mountain and is one of the most fertile regions of the Sultanate. In the vast fruit orchards and terraced fields you can find sweet corn, pomegranate, apricotes, peaches, almonds, walnut, grapes and roses, which are used for the famous Jebel Akhdhar rosewater.
The Saiq plateau, located 1,900 m above sea level offers wonderful views over the plain
below. We continue our drive to the so called Diana Point. It is named after the late Princess of Wales, who landed here in 1990 with a helicopter to marvel at the extraordinary vista. Here we enjoy the surroundings during a short walk.

Day 7 (Hike up to Jebel Akhdar)

Day 7 (Hike up to Jebel Akhdar)

After our breakfast we gather our hiking equipment and set off on a beautiful nature trek 2000m above sea level. On the way to our first picnic stop we pass through an abandoned mud village and walk along narrow paths and the stunning views over the deep and evergreen planted villages of Jebel Akhdar will charm you. Far away from everyday stress you can feel how completely isolated people used to live over the centuries.

After a while we reach a green oasis with a small stream which enables insects, birds and plants to survive there. During our picnic close to the summit we have a fantastic overview of the Hadjar mountains and the highest mountains of Oman. Full of energy and with  lots of beautiful impressions we head downhill towards Nizwa and our hotel, where we will spend the night. We will reach our hotel in the early afternoon.

Day 8 ( Nizwa city of oasis – explore the mud village Al Hamra on a bike)

Day 8 ( Nizwa city of oasis – explore the mud village Al Hamra on a bike)

Nizwa, the capital city until 1783 and to this day headquarter of the Imam, is the sacred centre of the country. Explore the traditional Souq, which is famous for its splendid silver products and the pottery of Bahla. The fort of Nizwa offers an amazing birds eye view over the city and the surrounding mountains.
On our way to Jebel Shams we will visit Jabrin Caste, built in the 17th century and known as the most beautiful castle of Oman.It almost seems as if every artist and architect of this era contributed something to the magnificence of this building. Al Hamra is an old mud village, which was restored by the government to show visitors Omani life in earlier years.

A visit at Bait Al Safah gives you the opportunity to understand everyday life of an Omani family. This experience offers an exclusive, private and authentic way to experience their way of life, customs and traditions.

Day 9 (Across Canyons and picturesque mountain villages back to the capital of Oman)

Bilad Sayt is one of the small villages, which has kept its traditional charm and the feeling of rural solitude. It’s located hidden away within the protecting mountains of Rustaq. Collections of green date trees and patches of designed fields like terraces characterize the beauty of this region. Falaj, which originate in the nowhere of the surrounding mountains, provide the region with crystal clear water. This water is distributed by the falaj-system of the village. The overflow ends in the adjacent Wadi which is situated about 7 km meandering within the mountains.
Wadi Bani Awf is situated inside a deep gorge. The rich green date trees generate an amazing contrast to the rough mountains, which surround the Wadi.
Collections of green date trees and patches of designed fields like terraces characterize
