Another feature of the interior design is the 14-meter-tall chandelier above the praying hall of the mosque. The next stop is at Al Alam Palace built two centuries ago. Today you will be travelling along the Arabian Gulf, and the first stopover will be at Quriyat, a large fishing village, which lies some 80 kilometers from the capital. You will then proceed to the picturesque Bimah Sinkhole that appeared as a result of erosion thousands of years ago. The Sinkhole filled with turquoise salt water is considered one of the most beautiful in the world. En route you will pass spectacularly deep and narrow gorges of Wadi Shab and Wadi Tiwi and then reach dome-less Bibi Maryam Mausoleum that is the only surviving monument of the ancient city of Qalhat, once the capital of Oman. The next stop is at the city of Sur. An important trade center by the 6th century, it was conquered by the Portuguese in the 16th century and liberated by the Omani imam Nasir ibn Murshid and once again became a trade center with India and East Africa. The dhows, traditional Omani sailing vessels, are still built in the city. In the open-air museum of Sur you can find a restored dhow of Fatah Al Khair constructed in the 8th century. You will continue your way to the village of Ras Al Hadd, where you will visit Ras Al Jinz, a perfectly unique natural landscape, where green turtles nest. Overnight at Turtle Beach Resort. (B)
