Church of Saint Anne
The Church of Saint Anne is a twelve century church which was built in honor of Anne, or locally known as Hannah, who was the mother of Mary. It is a beautiful church which displays early forms of Crusader architecture. The garden is well kept and a number of archaeological remains are on display here too.
The Church of Saint Anne can be accessed by entering via the Lions Gate and is also part of the Via Dolorosa, more specifically, located near the Pools of Beth-Zatha. It is a peaceful site and many of the visitors find it easy to meditate here.
One of the most significant aspects of the Church of Saint Anne is the remarkable acoustic. Some who visited here would say it is the best acoustic experience they ever had. Many groups of tourists, especially those traveling for religious purposes, sing hymns in the church.
It is also believed that the church was built on the spot where Mary was born and also where Isaiah approached the king at the time and predicted that a virgin would bear a child. Inside is a statue that depicts Saint Anne with her child, Mary.
